Fire Razes CPC's Pastor Tunde Bakare’s Home!

The Opebi home of the vice presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Pastor Tunde Bakare, was razed by fire on Friday.

The whole building, located on Awuse Street in Opebi, Lagos, was engulfed in smoke when Saturday Tribune arrived the scene about one hour after the fire was brought under control.

It was gathered that the inferno began at 1:30 p.m. while men of the state fire service battled with it for four hours before it could be put off.

Though no life was lost, property worth millions of naira were burnt as sympathisers looked on helplessly at the loss incurred by the preacher, who is also the founder of a church, Latter Rain Assembly.

When contacted, Bakare told Saturday Tribune that he was not in the mood to comment, adding that he was busy putting things in order.

He, however, directed Saturday Tribune to call Mr. Yinka Odumakin, the spokesman to the CPC presidential candidate, Major General Muhammed Buhari, for reaction.

Speaking to Saturday Tribune, Odumakin said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, adding that nobody could know it until the police concluded their investigation.

"What I can say now is that the entire house was burnt by the inferno while vital documents were destroyed," he said.

Asked if the inferno had anything to do with current politics, Odumakin said he was not in a position to react to the question until police filed their report.

However, investigation revealed that Bakare was in possession of vital documents in the CPC's botched alliance with the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
